Cards similar to the Tarot have been around since the early
1200's, as written records would indicate. They were used for card games,
particularly in royal courts early in their introduction to Europe. It is
unclear when they were first used for meditation or divination purposes, but it
has only been in the last couple hundreds of years that they were popularly
associated with these. Playing cards that we know today actually derived from
the Tarot. The Major Arcana has been removed, along with the Knight cards from
each suit, and the suits were given new names and symbols: Cups became Hearts, Wands
became Clubs, Pentacles became Diamonds, and Swords became Spades. In fact, you
can even give a Tarot reading with a pack of playing cards, although it will
not be as thorough as it would if you had all 78 cards.
In my practice, I have mainly used Tarot for divination, and have been practicing since 1999. I started simply by buying a deck and began reading for friends and family, and I have been doing it ever since. The Tarot, for me is a tool for looking at the pieces of our lives and seeing how they fit together. It gives the querent (one or group of people getting a reading) the chance to see how their interaction with their environment, their desires and fears, and their past are shaping their future. We all really know this already, but it is nice to see how it all fits together. It gives a sense of confirmation, as well as the ability to consciously move in a new direction, if a different outcome is desired. We have more control over some situations than others, but often we have more control than we really think.
The Major Arcana represent archetypes, while the Minor Arcana represent common human situations and conditions. The meanings of the Major Arcana are fairly consistent, but the Minor Arcana can vary slightly from deck to deck. The cards you see in the daily readings are the actual cards I use. I have a few other decks that I use from time to time, and may eventually import some, but this deck is the first one I ever bought, and the one that I feel closest to.
In these daily readings, the cards will show general situations and likely scenarios for the day. Ever notice how similar things happen to a lot of people, or that we seem to have common things on our minds at given times? Well, I believe this has a lot to do with what Jung termed "the collective unconscious," and that the Tarot is a tool for connecting to this. Over the years, I have mainly given personal readings, and still do. Personal readings are much more focused on an individual's present path, and so is much more specific to their situation. These daily readings are meant to prepare us for situations and give some perspective where perspective is needed day to day.
I definitely encourage questions and curiosity, so feel free to comment or email me personally at infinitecenters@gmail.com I hope you enjoy these readings and that you find them helpful.
